guide to driving and camping in Austria

Zillertal Alps

Austria

Austria is staggeringly beautiful. Walking and cycling trails web magnificent mountainsides, flower-filled meadows and picturesque villages that hug grassy riverbanks. Here, in Austria, the composers Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven achieved musical perfection, as did Schubert, Strauss, Bruckner, and Mahler. It was, and still is, a world-renowned center for music. Cycling along the small roads connecting homey villages is a wonderful way to have a closer touch with the people and the countryside. Austria’s campgrounds are some of the most reasonably priced in Western Europe. You can expect grassy pitches, Wifi, bike rental on site or nearby, and attractive children’s playgrounds. Most campgrounds have fresh bread and pastries delivered to the campground each morning. Good signposting and excellent roadways makes the country driver-friendly.
