guide to driving and camping in Estonia

Matsula Reserve

Estonia

Estonia can proudly boast that it has one of the highest percentages of protected areas in Europe. Extensive marked trails, appropriate for both walking and cycling, meander along the forest floors carpeted in ferns and moss. Lush grassy parks surround the restored manor houses, churches, and a castle on Saaremaa Island. On Hiiumaa Island, a natural wildness pervades making it a great rustic get-away-from-it-all destination. Reasonably priced car-ferries are easy to use. Pleasant campgrounds have electricity, hot showers and a scenic location. Some have a sauna and an enclosed cooking/eating area. Roads are clearly marked and have been resurfaced in recent years. Most roads are two-laned but there are a few divided highways being built around larger cities.
