guide to driving and camping in Iceland

Skaftafell National Park

Iceland

Iceland is a grand combination of lush meadows enlivened with lovely wildflowers, pristine blue-green lakes and grandiose waterfalls. Snow-capped glacier-chiseled mountains hide steamy hot springs where thermal bathing is relaxing. Iceland’s bird-cliffs and lakes are some of the best bird-watching locations in the world. Not only are there beautiful campgrounds in all the national parks, you’ll also find them in many towns where they are often located next to the town’s swimming pool which is also the town’s social hub. In larger towns it will also have a lap pool, hot tub, sauna and water slide. Driving in Iceland is not difficult if you stay on the main roads and with certain precautions not hard on secondary ones. Traffic is light. Car-ferries are fun and convenient to use.
